Nothing gold can stay. . .

The fowl have reached a rather awkward stage in their development. I suppose we knew it would happen. They can't continue to be the darling little chicks we cuddled so recently. It reminds me of one of my favorite poems:

Nothing Gold Can Stay
Robert Frost

Nature's first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf's a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.

New Mexico vs. Old Mexico. . .

Earlier this week, while I was kicking around Las Cruces, New Mexico, Katie, our oldest daughter was swimming with the dolphins in old Mexico. Decide for yourself, but I'm not sure the old version is really inferior to the new one.

Alia made a fun lunch today. . .

I love a kid who's creative with food. When I was a youngster I once wrote "God" in mustard on my bologna sandiwch. I don't consider that in the same category as this "spider-wich."

Adolesence challenges many of us. . .

. . .and though it's hard to not look cute sitting in a wooden shoe, these rangy little fowl manage to pull it off.

Oh, and look out for scary porch horses!

I learned a new word in a restroom today. . .

No, nothing gross, but pretty funny. Apparently the German word for baby changing table is wickeltisch. I just love that. Here's the wikipedia entry: http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wickeltisch and the photographic evidence.

The little flock is loved by all. . .

. . .including the hound. The chicks did well on their first foray outside. Shipley the shepherd did pretty good in that she didn't eat any of them. We're not turning our backs on her though!

Plain, but nice. . .

Here's my room for Friday night at Camp Tecumseh. I was expecting a dorm situation and got a private room. That's a nice way to be surprised. Of, yeah, my own bathroom, too. Whoo hooo.

everybody loves the little fowl. . .

Now we're trying to regulate their heat so they live through the night.
